A quick guide to local actions - small actions can have a big impact!
Some of you have contacted us about “local action plans” in different parts of the world. Whilst we can only provide you with information on the main events in some countries, here is something you can consider doing locally. It is a very useful and practical tip from Amnesty International that they send to their UK members.

1) We are producing placards with the names and silhouettes of the most prominent of the trade unionists in jail in Iran. At the moment this is 11 individuals.
2) Download these files from our campaign site, print them and make your own placards (Or you could just hold the print-outs).
3) Anywhere where you can get together 11 people, get dressed in black and hold these placards/print-outs.
4) Organise a photo session and send it to:-
We will post them on our campaign page. A collection of these photos will become a visually strong message of protest and solidarity!
Planning your action day
- Who will you be encouraging to get active and what is the best way of communication?
- Who will you be targeting - the members? the public? the media? your Government? the Iranian Embassy in your country or the Iranian Government? Iranian companies active in your country, or domestic corporations that trade with or operate in Iran?
- What will your campaign actions and events be?
- What resources will you need?
- Many action plans will require the collective effort of your organisation. You would therefore need to consider:
- How will you mobilise your members and brief them about this
 campaign?
- Will you organise regional actions together with your central event?
- What campaign materials will you use? How many? What is the
 timetable for distribution?
- How will you liaise with other unions in your country?
- How about NGOs and human rights groups? Do you have allies in
your community that support this campaign?
- Have you considered the legal implications for your plans?
